Standards of Journalism
Accuracy
Accuracy is the foundation of journalism. We verify facts through multiple sources, confirm quotes directly with those who spoke them, and avoid speculation. We acknowledge when information is unclear or contested. We correct errors promptly and transparently.
Fairness and Impartiality
We strive to represent all relevant viewpoints on controversial issues. We do not take sides in political or other disputes, except on fundamental issues of rights and values where the facts are clear. We present facts in their proper context. We distinguish between news reporting and opinion.
Independence
The Vindex maintains editorial independence from political, commercial, and other outside pressures. No advertiser, source, or outside interest influences our coverage decisions. Our editorial and business operations are separate and maintain clear boundaries.
Transparency
We are transparent about our methods, sources, and reasoning. We explain how we obtained information, acknowledge limitations in our reporting, and disclose conflicts of interest. We make clear distinctions between fact, analysis, and opinion.
Accountability
We are accountable to our readers. We welcome questions about our coverage and take reader feedback seriously. We explain editorial decisions when asked. We acknowledge when we've fallen short of our standards.
Sourcing and Verification

Conflicts of Interest
Our staff discloses potential conflicts of interest to editors and recuses themselves from coverage where appropriate. We require disclosure when reporters or editors have financial interests, personal relationships, or other considerations that could affect their judgment.
We maintain clear separation between news and advertising. Advertiser preferences do not influence our coverage decisions. We clearly label opinion content, analysis, and sponsored content.
Corrections Policy
When we make factual errors, we correct them. Corrections are published prominently so they reach readers who saw the original error. We explain what was wrong and how we got it wrong. Significant corrections are noted in editors' notes.
